Ted, Bear Center, Wildlife - UPDATE April 14, 2017
A Lily Fan sent a picture of Ted’s back feet. The light color in good light makes me think he somehow got rid of his hind food pads Tedjust fine. I’ll try to get a look up close when I see him, if he will show me. Sharon and Moe did a nice 2:35 video of Ted on the scale saying his friendly grunts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gYVSuo-C-k. Sharon tells about Holly and Tasha’s relationship.
Purple finchInside the Bear Center Scott and Moe tell about the new Loon Exhibit and about the upgraded bear mounts and the new habitat that is part of these exhibits, and about the birds that were recently placed in the Camping Exhibit. Each is about 2 ½ minutes long.

Loons are back. They were too far out on the water to photograph, but I look forward to seeing them right beside the pontoon boat, maybe with babies on their backs in July and August. While listening to the loons, the first robin I’ve seen on the property this year perched with its rich spring colors highlighted by the early morning sun. Same for a purple finch. A grackle looked all black except where the sun caught his feathers just right. Then a deer drank from a pond that has just become ice-free. I looked for sign of the woodchuck and found she (?) has burrows under three sides of the boiler shed and one under the driveway in addition to the one under the bay window in the living room. Later, she was out nibbling new blades of grass. The gull is a new returnee from last year. We called it Clear Eyes and described its behavior as that we can toss bologna to it without it flying away, although it flares its wings as the bologna is heading its way. All the same this year. The blue jay perched where my camera is pre-aimed (sitting on top of the speaker for the outside microphone) as I type. It looked my way as I moved quickly to snap the picture. Back to typing.
