Ted, Gulls, Speaking in Michigan - UPDATE April 13, 2017

Today, Ted was drinking the meltwater on top of his upside down swimming pool and he lounged on his back with all four feet in the air.20170413 Herring gullsHerring gulls

Out the window, I believe our gull has a mate. A gull from last year (Speckles) is by her (guessing her) and flying over her constantly. Did Speckles win out over the other gulls that seemed to follow our gull? Speckles has taken a young bride. He is at least a year older than her. Speckles was an adult last year, while our gull still had her juvenile plumage. Speckles is on the left in the picture. He gets his name because of the many speckles on his iris. He also has a rough beak. Our gull has clearer eyes and distinctive black marks near the orange spot on her bill.

Today we finalized everything with the Michigan DNR for the talk I’ll be giving at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, on April 18 (Tuesday) at 7 PM in Room 135 in Fisher Hall. Admission is free. I put a lot of work into a PowerPoint that includes many pictures and videos. I think it will hold their attention and change attitudes about black bears. I’ll also give an abbreviated version of my slide lecture. They’ve given me an hour and a half, including questions, which is often the best part. This is an opportunity.

Thank you for all you do.
