Mothers’ Day - UPDATE May 8, 2016

Blue JayBlue JayOn this Mothers’ Day we know Bow is okay. She was seen yesterday with all three of her yearlings—all females (Rachel, Florence, and Nancy). Being females, they will likely stay in the area and become familiar names over the years. We’ll have to know exactly how to recognize each one so we can follow their lives.

We had a report of 4-year-old Herbie today, so we know another one that made it through. Somehow, it doesn’t seem four years ago that we saw him being born to Jewel.

Crow flyingCrow flyingA video from the very windy day yesterday, shows Ted actively sniffing the breeze and ignoring the flapping plastic off to his left https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRcDf0gmFiw&feature=em-subs_digest.

A note on the miracle of snow at 61° degrees yesterday is that the wind died down overnight, letting the cold from the upper levels descend. This morning, driving to work at 5 AM, the van recorded temperatures as low as 29° degrees. So I guess it wasn’t a miracle after all. It was just very cold temperatures in the upper levels, which we finally got to see at ground level this morning.

Also on this Mother’s Day, blue jays are bringing food to their mates, and northern flickers are mating.

Finally, Happy Mothers’ Day to all the mothers who love bears and who the bears have brought together as friends in their name.

Thank you for all you do.
