Odds and Ends - UPDATE September 29, 2014
Red-tailed Hawk - 9.28.14We checked the deep rock den to see if Lily, Cole, Ember, or Aster had selected it. There was no sign of activity in the vicinity and no bear inside. The bed looked like it did a month ago.
Yesterday, when we were canoeing to the beaver lodge, a tired young Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) was good enough to land in a tree near us as we floated along the shore. We don’t see many Red-tailed Hawks up here, so we had to snap a picture in passing.
At the Bear Center yesterday, a little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus) slept as we took photos in the Bear Foods Garden in front of the building. We were surprised to see it sleeping in the open.
Little brown bat - 9.28.14Starting Wednesday, October 1, at 1 pm CST a new program “Live from the NABC” will be broadcast via bear.org. Hosted by Director Scott Edgett, it will feature many topics happening at the NABC.
Lily Fans who may have attended the Gala for the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates with President Jimmy Carter in Atlanta a couple nights ago might not have realized a fellow bear fan was there. The world renowned violinist who launched the World Peace Violin's official commemoration as the universal symbol of world peace by playing “Journey to Peace” is a fellow Lily Fan who likes nothing better than talking bears. We’re thankful that our family of Lily Fans comes from all walks of life and are spreading the truth about bears in the most unlikely places.
Thank you for all you do.
