2002-03-04 - Blackheart's cubs' eyes are opening
The wind was calm today with temperatures in the low teens, so four of us visited Blackheart's den in late afternoon to see how the cubs are developing. They are becoming well furred, and their eyes are opening. Two had eyes blinking wide open to the world. The one with the white V (sex still unknown) had its eyes open only a slit. They ventured out from under Blackheart for a look at us without squawking about the cold. When they tried to snuggle back in, Blackheart was always attentive to their smallest needs. We still are seeing only three, so the uncertainty about there being three or four is settling on three.
