Celebrating Earth Day With Bears! - UPDATE April 22, 2022
The big excitement of the day was a surprise visit from Chloe, Lincoln, and Charley Brown. They arrived about 6:55 PM and stayed a little over a half hour. I welcomed them with food, of course. There was a little thunder in the background that kept Chloe alert. The yearlings were hungry and focused on food, depending on mom to warn of any danger. I used that yearling trait to finish putting a screw in a radio collar some decades ago. I was putting a collar on a yearling shortly before family breakup. Mom said it was time to leave before I was done, so I tagged along until they lay down to nurse and nap. I slowly tip-toed up to them and put the screw in the collar of the yearling as it slept snuggled to mom. For the bears this evening, the light was too poor to avoid blur unless the bear held still for a second or so. They left headed across a bay of Woods Lake that had some patches of open water. Just after I snapped the picture of the scene, Chloe went through the ice a couple times but it was shallow enough that she easily got back up on the ice.

At the Bear Center, Holly was active yesterday as "Taught" caught on the 3:47 minute video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PSxiEzND2s and on this 1:17 minute one in which Holly makes a quick, unfriendly ground-slap toward Tasha’s rock den just as she starts walking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcLY1AJIA9w.
The favorite food of this woodchuck today was carrots.
It was great to see Chloe, Lincoln, and Charley Brown!
Thank you for all you do,
