Ted, Lucky, Holly - UPDATE March 26, 2017
Ted was out eating snow and grass in his pen today as a Lily Fan captured in this 8:46 video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rg4vfvgD91k Before long, he’ll be having food delivered and making trips to the viewing area for more. I’m glad to see him getting around pretty well. Lucky and Holly face to face
Lucky and Holly are a love story. How could anyone deny it? Why else would they lie face to face in silent, playful communication? The picture says a thousand words. How different from most of this winter, though.
Herring gullTasha is staying out of the limelight under her frozen blanket of insulating snow. I wonder how she will fit in with the Dynamic Duo. Will Holly want to keep her away from Lucky? Will she learn to trust Ted?
Out the window, a gull from last year returned and sat waiting for its bologna—the first gull I’ve seen this year. It best fits the description of an adolescent from last year with its clear eyes and the black marks by the orange dot on the bill. It’s in adult plumage this year.

Mink visits to the WRI |
While putting out bird seed, Mr. Mink joined us on the second floor deck. He stayed away from us but came forward to watch what we were doing. The best guess I can make of his size is 19-20 inches from nose to tip of tail from the picture of him stretched out. See what you think. The boards are each 5 inches wide, and the spaces between the boards under him are ¾ to 1 inch. He can slip down through cracks 1 and 1/16th inch wide.
Thank you for all you do.
