Honey, Ted, Spring, and Feeding - UPDATE March 21, 2015

Robin - WRI File PhotoAmerican Robin - WRI File PhotoAt the Bear Center, Honey took a stroll, as usual, and Ted welcomed a visitor. Seeing on the monitor in the Bear Center that Ted was standing in his den entrance, I stopped up to say hi and hear his friendly sounds. What a sweetheart.

In Ely, robins are back and are feeding on crabapples that shriveled on the trees overwinter.

In the appeal, we have received a date for oral arguments which will be at the Judicial Center, Courtroom 100, on April 22, 2015 at 11:50 AM. I believe the judges have 90 days after that to let us know their decision, which I think would be by July 21.

In the meantime, we’ll see how the ban on bear-feeding fares in the legislature. I would not send letters to our Representative David Dill or our Senator Tom Bakk who already have plenty of reason to want the feeding section stricken from the bill.

We found a hard drive that contains a lot of the later archives from Juliet’s Den Cam. Linda Gibson should have it next week to begin working on highlight videos for us to see again. The early archives are on the failed drive that we still hope to recover.

The raw archives are still up on vimeo however, and can be accessed daily by clicking this link: http://www.bearstudy.org/website/research/2014-juliet-archives.html

Thank you for all you do.

Lynn Rogers, Biologist, Wildlife Research Institute and North American Bear Center
