Blowing Snow! - UPDATE February 26, 2015
Snow blown on Juliet - February 26, 2014In this 6½ minute highlight video, Juliet's family gets hit with blowing snow although there was no new snowfall for this day in 2014.
The video begins at 2:35 AM with temperatures down around 17° below zero F. Cubs are nursing, crawling, and squawling. There is a little wind yet and the snow looks unchanged from yesterday.
Sometime between 1:17 PM and 2:39 PM, the wind strengthened but little snow is blowing into the den.
By 5:02 PM (5 minutes into the video), the wind is strong, snow is blowing through the den (first time we’ve seen this), Juliet is mostly covered with snow with snow caked on her hind quarters. The temperature is near its high for the day of 5° F. More snow is caked on Juliet by 11:46 PM as temperatures head down toward the overnight low of 31° below zero F. The cubs are mostly quiet snuggled under Juliet. Hearing no protests from the cubs, Juliet lies unmoving.

We had a nice meeting today with Heidi Pinkerton who (with Meteorologist Bob Conzemius) will make the Northern Lights exhibit in a 10x10-foot space we have allotted for them. The exhibit will be spectacular. Heidi was very impressed with the Northwoods Habitat Exhibit that Lily Fans donated so many taxidermy items to create.
Thank you for all you do.
