Wolves and Moose and Bears, Oh My! – UPDATE July 25, 2014
Wolf - July 24People who feed wildlife in Eagles Nest Community see not only bears but sometimes wolves and moose. This wolf was seen not only at WRI but also at a feeding station a half-mile away where this picture was taken. At a feeding station 4.5 miles away, 2 wolves and a big bull moose were seen. At least one of those wolves was radio-collared.
TedOn the education side today, Lynn did an interview with ABC News to provide background information for a news story about bear sightings across America. We don’t know when the story will run.
TedJudy Thon did a great job in a 10-minute interview about the Bear Center on WCCO Radio. WCCO, based in Minneapolis, was in Ely for the Blueberry Arts Festival and was promoting Ely attractions, including the International Wolf Center and the North American Bear Center. We don’t know if the interview was live or, if it was, when it might air again.
Female Purple FinchAt the Bear Center, Ted has gained 20 pounds in 4 days, regaining nearly half of the worrisome 48 pounds he lost in a month. He was 504 on July 21 and 524 today. The veterinarians are still coming sometime next week to x-ray his right leg and paw and attempt to determine if there is a treatable reason for his bare backside. We’re relieved he has regained so much weight so quickly.
Male Purple FinchOut the window, the male and female Purple Finches showed up at the feeder together to show how different they are.
Thank you for all you do.
