Lily Fans Arriving – UPDATE July 17, 2014
Eagles Nest Lake OneThis morning, Lily Fans vacationing in Ely woke up to mirror-like water and beautiful sunshine. They went to the Bear Center and photographed flowers that are at their peak for this biggest weekend of the year—the Lilypad Picnic. They walked the Nature Trail and saw evidence of their help over the years. They went out on the viewing platform and photographed Holly in the cedar tree at eye level. They saw the results of a lot of work by the staff and volunteers with Holly.

RC's cubsLast evening, calls from local feeding stations let us see Jewel and her cubs again and let Lynn see RC with her cubs which have not been sexed yet. We didn’t get that information last night, either. RC’s cubs have hardly seen Lynn. When he came into view, they knew he was not the person they usually see there. They ran for the woods and climbed high in a tree.
RC knows Lynn well and hardly bothered to look at him. Lynn had to make weird noises before RC would even lift her head for a second.
RC looks upThese bears continue to give us insights into their minds and cares. RC wanted to tend to eating rather than bother looking at familiar old Lynn. We’ll get the sexes of the cubs another time.
NABC Nature TrailThis evening had more action with another familiar bear returning. Those stories are for tomorrow’s update.
Excitement grows as Lily Fans pour into town. So much fun seeing old faces and meeting new Lily Fans. Tomorrow (Friday) night is a special dinner with six winners of a contest.

Thank you for all you do.
